Both should be considered required reading on the topic of Mac OS licensing. MacCentral's Mac OS Mandate MacCentral has started a campaign to save licensing. Their original August 7th post, Licensing Mandate, called for the Mac community to raise their voices and let Apple know that licensing should be continued. Their follow-up report Where's the Beef! updates everyone on the status of the mandate. If you feel licensing is important, sign the MacCentral petition. Other online sites that have started campaigns to save Mac OS licensing include Always Apple: Save the Clones! and Mac OS Mania: Save Mac OS Licensing! Thursday, August 14 Netscape Push Software Due This Week Netscape Communications announced the final version of the Netcaster "push" component for its Communicator client will be out this week, trumpeting its support from consumer and business-oriented Web sites. Using Netcaster, Web surfers can subscribe to channels -- Websites that will send information to their desktops on a regular basis-- and look at those and other Web sites offline, officials said.Netcaster can also be used to build a Webtop -- that is, to anchor aWeb site to the desktop -- so users can watch for pushed information,even if they are using other applications. Ric Ford has created a Mac OS 8 Compatibility & Bugs Page at his website with all of the known bugs and compatibility problems that have been reported. Corel and Nisus Enhance Word Processors Corel Corp. and Nisus Software Inc. this month rolled out revisions to their word processing applications. Corel unveiled the WordPerfect for Macintosh Enhancement Pack, and Nisus announced Version 5.1 of Nisus Writer. Both software upgrades are scheduled to ship by the end of the month.
